Our Ethnic Studies programs offer a broad array of courses in African American Studies, Asian American Studies, Mexican American/Chicano Studies, Native American Studies, Gender and Ethnicity, and the European Experience. We also offer general courses on American ethnic groups in sociology, psychology, anthropology, and history.

Psychology is the study of the way humans and animals act, feel, think, and learn. Part of psychology's appeal and fascination is the fact that it involves both pure science and the practical application of science to matters of everyday life. Those pursuing psychology as a field of study will find many career opportunities centering around helping others understand, predict, and control their own behavior and the behavior of others. Training in psychology also provides a valuable foundation for other professions that deal with people.

Our social work and human services programs prepare students for employment as para-professionals and also prepare students for transfer to four-year colleges and universities to continue their studies in psychology and social work. Courses in the social work and human services programs may be applicable foundation courses for further study toward licensure as marriage and family therapists, social workers, and psychologists.
Our curriculum emphasizes performance-based training in client screening, intake, assessment, orientation, individual counseling, group counseling, consultation, client’s rights, confidentiality, crisis intervention, client education, professional ethics, reports, and record keeping.
